PONCINS (Edmond de). Copy of the letters of Edmond de Poncins during his trip to the English Indies. (1892). In-8, green half-chagrin with corners, spine decorated, in modern slipcase. (7) bl. ff. ; (1) f. ; 287 pp. (numbered 387) ; (4) ff. ; (22) ff. bl. Very legible handwritten copy of letters that Edmond de Poncins sent to his parents during the trip he made to the English Indies, between July 12, 1891 and July 1, 1892. Leaving Marseille, he passed through the Suez Canal, arrived in Bombay, visited Agra, Benares, Calcutta, Simla... then returned to Marseille on board the Océanien. He describes his voyage, and especially the countless hunts in which he took part: "As game, I killed: 5 spotted deer, a pig deer, 4 wild boars, 3 otters, half a dozen crocodiles, one of which was 22 feet long, 2 iguanas, large lizards averaging 5 to 6 feet long, and 150 to 160 game birds of all species.I found tiger feet, tied up 2 goats for 4 nights in the best places without one being touched by a tiger. Only one was killed by a tiger cat. I have sharpened without success...". Great hunter and traveler, Edmond de Poncins published several books on hunting, including one, in 1897, on his Chasses et explorations dans la région des Pamirs. Ex-libris Edmond de Poncins.
