The Valentine Porcelain Manufactory, founded in 1832 in Valentine (near Saint-Gaudens, Haute-Garonne) by the Fouque and Arnoux families—former earthenware makers from Provence and Toulouse—exploited a local kaolin deposit. As the only hard-paste porcelain manufacturer in southwestern France, it produced pieces until 1878 featuring a milky white body, a glossy glaze, and the famous “Valentine blue” cobalt-based decorations. The blue on our vase, which is lighter than the deep blue typically used at Valentine, allows for attribution only to this manufactory.
