Victor VASARELY (1906–1997) Boytar 1977 Canvas, signed lower right, countersigned, titled, and dated on the reverse Numbered on the reverse P980 130 x 130 cm (59 x 59 in.) Provenance: Acquired in the early 1980s, directly from the artist by the current owner’s father. The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Mr. Pierre Vasarely, President of the Vasarely Foundation. A certificate, at the purchaser’s expense, may be issued by the Vasarely Foundation. About the silkscreen: Victor Vasarely, the father of Op Art, created “Boytar,” an iconic silkscreen, in 1984. This work creates a powerful optical illusion: a central sphere appears to float, pulsate, and expand within a grid of colored circles. The vibrant contrasts and precise gradations trick the eye, creating depth and kinetic movement. Typical of the “Vega” period and his explorations of fictional volume, “Boytar” embodies Vasarely’s vision of a universal, sensory art—accessible to all, free from figurative representation, and based on the pure interaction between form, color, and the human eye. We thank Pierre Vasarely for confirming the authenticity of this work.
