Luca GIORDANO (Naples 1634 - 1705), attributed to - Lot 10
Luca GIORDANO (Naples 1634 - 1705), attributed to Diana, Goddess of the Hunt with a Dog Pen and black ink, gray wash, laid down with red chalk 22.8 x 23.2 cm Exhibition: Galerie Nathalie Motte, Paris This drawing of Diana reminds us of another Diana, one of Giordano's landmark compositions "Diana and Endymion" (c. 1675-1680), an emblematic Baroque canvas by Neapolitan painter Luca Giordano (1 nicknamed "Luca fa presto" for his prodigious speed. As in our drawing, Giordano's Baroque dynamism, luminous contrasts and characteristic sensuality are palpable. He was influenced by Ribera and Piero di Cortona.
