In its original brown leatherette case. Georges Risler (1853-1941) was a Freemason, administrator of numerous social works and president of the Musée Social. He was elected member of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques in 1930. He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1907, an Officer in 1912, a Commander in 1920, a Grand Officer in 1929 and a Grand Cross in 1936. In Strasbourg, a bronze plaque bearing his effigy can be seen at 18, rue Aristide-Briand, in a housing estate that bears his name: this medal may be a reduction of this plaque.
