JERSEY Jersey earthenware.
In the 19th century, Norman ships regularly visited the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, bringing back souvenirs and trinkets, including fine "Jersey" earthenware ("Lustre pottery").
Lustre pottery was manufactured in the United Kingdom, in Leeds, Newcastle and Swansea. On the Old Continent, they became known as "Jersey earthenware" simply because they passed through the island of Jersey on their way to Normandy.
A stopover is thus the origin of the name Jersey earthenware.
