follower of François BOUCHER ( 1703 - Paris - 1770 ) - Lot 14
follower of François BOUCHER ( 1703 - Paris - 1770 )
Seated shepherdess
Black stone and red chalk, on buff paper, edged with black ink
Partially faded stamp "AA" for Alexandre Ananoff collection
16, 3 x 22, 4 cm
This drawing is typical of the young Boucher's style in the years following his return from Italy in 1731, and can be compared to the drawing of three seated figures in the Musée d'Art et d'Industrie de Saint-Etienne (cf cat. exp. François Boucher hier et aujourd'hui, Paris, Musée du Louvre, 2003-2004, no. 21). This is not a study from life, but rather a work created in the studio, from sketches made in Italy or after Nordic models, in particular Abraham Bloemaert, for whom Boucher engraved a Livre d'étude d'après les desseins originaux de Bloemaert gravé par François Boucher peintre de l'Académie royale, published in 1735.
