Symbolist school The Fall of Icarus Canvas 68 x 101 cm Bears a Cabanel label on the back, also associated with pre-Raphaelite painters. In Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of the Athenian architect Daedalus. He died in a fall into the sea that now bears his name, having tried to fly too close to the Sun, while escaping from the labyrinth with wax and feather wings created by his father. For the Greeks, Icarus was the symbol of recklessness and courage, but also of imprudence and excess. A warning against human hubris.
