Nicolas de Largillière (1656 - 1746) after Portrait of the miniature painter Jacques-Antoine Arlaud (Geneva 1668 - 1743). Based on the painting in the Musée d'art et d'histoire, Ville de Genève. Canvas 40.5 x 32.5 cm. Gilded wood frame in the LouisXIV style, decorated with scrolls and lambrequins in the corners. A pupil of Largillière for a time, he became the painter of regent Philippe d'Orléans, who assigned him an apartment at the Château de Saint-Cloud. Here, depicted in bust form, miniaturist's palette in hand, he indulges in trompe-l'oeil, copying a Leda.
