Bibliography: P. de Musset, Biographie d'Alfred de Musset, Paris, 1888, p.362 (Barely settled into his apartment in the rue du Mont-Thabor, overburdened by furniture purchases, he was offered a fine copy by Carle Vanloo of the Giorgione in the Louvre, the Concert champêtre. The painting didn't cost much; it was a precious opportunity. He takes it on condition that he pays for it in four months, has it brought to his home in triumph, and hangs it on the wall of his dining room, saying to the housekeeper, who is not very happy with this acquisition: "Set my place in front of this painting, and subtract one dish from my ordinary. Dinner will always seem good enough"). Remake of the painting by Giorgione and Titian in the Louvre (H. E. Wethey, The paintings of Titian, III. The mythological and historical paintings, London, 1975, no. 29, reproduced fig. 3).
