Horace VERNET, after
The defense of Paris against Russian troops
Marshal Moncey took action against the Russian troops at the Barrière de Clichy, leading a motley crew of just over 1,000 men, including volunteers, disabled soldiers and students from the Polytechnic and Veterinary Schools. The morning's loss of French positions at Pantin, Belleville, Romainville and Buttes-Chaumont led to the capitulation of Paris, signed by Marshal Marmont on the night of March 30-31. On the morning of March 31st, at 12pm, the Allies entered through the Porte Saint-Martin.
