Buddha head, Sukhothai style or Ayutthaya kingdom. Mâravijay - Lot 164
Buddha head, Sukhothai style or Ayutthaya kingdom. Mâravijaya Buddha head in bronze, with headdress marked with small dots (Ayutthaya style) and surmounted by a flame (ramsi, Sinhalese influence, and in reference to the light emanating from the Buddha). The nose is straight and thin, the earlobes are elongated, the closed eyes mark serenity, and the lips are thick and outlined with a line (Khmer tradition). Beautiful dark patina and traces of gilding. Height 22 cm. Purchased Bangkok, 1975.
