YELLOW CRUISE. - IACOVLEFF (Alexander). - Lot 190
YELLOW CRUISE. - IACOVLEFF (Alexander). Drawings and paintings of Asia. Paris, Lucien Vogel, Jean Meynial, (1934). In-folio, cardboard portfolio with flaps and printed first cover, black laces. First edition of this famous report of the Citroën - Centre Asie or Croisière Jaune expedition, the third large-scale motorized expedition led by Haardt and Audouin-Dubreuil (after the Traversée du Sahara and the Croisière noire). This automobile raid organized by André Citroën made it possible to link Beirut to Beijing, creating a true automobile Silk Road. The Yellow Cruise was both a triumph and a tragedy, with many expeditionaries, including Haardt, dying during the raid. Nevertheless, the scientific discoveries and the ability of the expeditionaries to overcome adversity made it a myth. It includes: - a Japanese-style sewn booklet, with Alexander Iacovleff's travel notes, illustrated with his own sketches reproduced around the text or in overprint. - 50 color plates out of text by Iacovleff. Edition at 720 copies. One of 500 with the text printed on Lafuma Madagascar paper and the plates on Lafuma vellum rag paper. Beautiful original drawing signed by Iacovleff, in pencil, of an Asian woman in profile, seated (14 x 15 cm) accompanied by this autograph letter: "To Mr and Mrs Edward Holmes. "In memory" from A. Iacovleff". Rebacked folder, with original boards and spine. First cover unstained. On the folder of plate 1, transfer of the links of the booklet.
