GALINIER (Joseph). - Lot 84
GALINIER (Joseph). Autograph letter signed, addressed to Mr. Taconnet, lieutenant in Pau. 5 pp. in-8 folded. Paris, May 19 1843. Long letter in which the military officer and explorer Joseph Galinier (1814-1888) tells in great detail about an expedition to Abyssinia. He evokes his geographical surveys, his observations in natural history, and especially the habits and customs of the inhabitants: "When arriving in Gondar, we visited the Queen, she asked us first if we were married... she hastened to offer us the ladies of honor. But we were warned that she surrounded herself with old and ugly women, and we took care to thank her". Fine beige paper glued to the back. Tiny stains, small lack reaching 2 letters in fine, restorations. The signature is in a slightly different ink.
