French school of the Second Empire period. - Lot 341
French school of the Second Empire period. The Rendezvous of the Hunt in Honor of the Queen of the Netherlands. Watercolor on paper with gold and silver highlights, bearing a signature and the date 1858 in the lower right corner, depicting a hunting scene with Napoleon III and Eugenie in the forest of Fontainebleau during the visit of the Queen of the Netherlands to France in 1858. In a gilt frame and blue marie-louise. H. 12,5 x W. 17,5 cm (at sight). Interesting and rare scene of a hunting appointment, in Compiègne under the Second Empire, in the presence of the Emperor and Empress of the French, recognizable by their tricorn hat "lampion" with white feather. The sovereign wears a green cloth suit in the French style, white skin breeches and white gloves, the empress is dressed in an amazon corset in green cloth with golden braids of venison at the collar. Possibly executed from life, and therefore on the spot, our watercolor renders to the spectator all the agitation of the dogs of the pack before the departure, in the presence of the guests, the valets and the hunting gendarmes.
