ALEXANDRINSKY SERVICE - Lot 270
ALEXANDRINSKY SERVICE Rare porcelain plate of the Alexandrinsky service, the marli with celestial blue background and golden garlands with painted decoration of oval cartridges representing birds, the edge contoured with golden net. Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, reign of Nicholas II, 1901. Green stamp mark. D. 25 cm. History The Alexandrinsky service takes its name from its patron, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia (1872-1917), who in 1899 commissioned a service of 1300 pieces for the Winter Palace, the model of which was largely inspired by an 18th century Sèvres service that was in the palace stores.
