French school of the XIXth century, entourage of Edouard DUBUFE Portrait of Rachel On its original canvas 72 x 60 cm (Misses) Born in 1821, Elisabeth Rachel Félix arrived in Paris with her parents who were passionate about theater. After a poor and wandering childhood between Switzerland and Lyon, where she tried to survive. Gifted for the stage, she was a pupil of the artist Alexandre Choron, then of the actors Saint-Aulaire and Samson. Engaged at the Théâtre-Français at the age of seventeen, she made her debut in Corneille's Horace, and later brought to life all the great tragic heroines.
