NECKER (Natalis Joseph de). Treatise on mycitology. Mannheim, Mathias Fontaine, 1783. In-12, half tan basane, small vellum corners, smooth spine decorated, black title (contemporary binding). Title, (4) ff. of notices, 133 pp. and (3) pp. of explanations, one folding plate. First edition, decorated with a plate containing 14 figures. This treatise is the fourth part of a memoir against "all the alleged cryptogamy of the knight of Linné" (the other three parts will be published later). The author deals with the opinions about the origin of mushrooms (animal or vegetable) and demonstrates Linné's mistake in excluding mushrooms from the sexual system; he then describes the organization of the plant and exposes various observations about mushrooms: their origins, the lavaurel, the dust of the wolf vesse, the peziza lentifera, the variety of forms, the harvesting and sale of culinary mushrooms... Noël Martin Joseph de Necker (1729-1793), a Belgian botanist, was physician to the Elector of the Palatinate in Mannheim. He devoted himself particularly to the study of mosses. Binding very damaged, upper cuff missing, spine split. Pritzel, 6635 - Mykolibri, 1447.
