LAINEZ (Alexandre). Poetry. La Haye, at the expense of the c - Lot 210
LAINEZ (Alexandre). Poetry. La Haye, at the expense of the company, 1753. In-8, fawn calf, gilt garland in frame, spine decorated with an iron with a repeated Cupid (period binding). xxii pp., (1) f., 112 pp. First edition of this collection of gallant and amiable poems, and of poems dedicated to Bacchus and Comus: some are dedicated to the wine of Champagne, others have very evocative titles: "La marmelade, La Turogénésie ou l'origine du fromage, La cafetière renversée, La salade épicurienne...". Alexandre Lainez (or Lainé, 1650-1713), a singular poet, "was one of the most delicate epicureans of his time" (Oberlé). A pleasant copy, in a binding with an unusual decoration. It comes from the Hector de Backer library, with bookplate. Unidentified crowned numeral on the title. Marginal stain on the first board. Some foxing. Small rubs to the binding. Oberlé, Bachique, 529.
