Antoine VESTIER (Avallon 1740 - Paris 1824) Portrait... - Lot 37 - Paris Enchères - Collin du Bocage
Antoine VESTIER (Avallon 1740 - Paris 1824) Portrait of Madame Hamon des Roches de Bournay Canvas 80 x 62 cm Signed and dated lower right Vestier / pictor Regis 1786 Provenance : Collection of Madame des Roches de Bournay, until her death in 1822 ; Collection of Armand Pierre des Roches de Bournay, son of the former, until his death in 1826; Collection of Armand Marie Dominique des Roches de Bournay, son of the previous one, until his death in 1859; Collection of Françoise des Roches de Bournay, daughter of the previous owner, who died without posterity in 1875; By inheritance from the Mareschal de Bièvre family, whose grandmother was the sister of Madame des Roches de Bournay; Collection of the Marquis Mareschal de Bièvre, Paris in 1911. Exhibition: La mode à travers trois siècle, Paris, château de Bagatelle, 1911, n°161. Bibliography : A-M. Passez, Antoine Vestier, Paris, 1989, n°52, reproduced. Agathe Françoise de Lorne (1766-1822) is portrayed here two years before her marriage to Jean-Baptiste Hamon des Roches de Bournay. The clever mix of social status, the model's refined dress and the more rural elements, such as the basket of grapes and flowers, are reminiscent of the portraits painted by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun. The pose of the woman is also close to that of the Countess of Grammont Caderousse painted by Vigée Le Brun and preserved at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.
