Bigorne : anvil with two points. - Lot 161
Bigorne : anvil with two points. The bigorne is a kind of very long anvil, each end of which is a pyramidal, conical or cylindrical point, depending on the trade. Instead of resting on the anvil, like the blacksmith's anvil, the curler is attached to it by a rod, a kind of silk, with a shoulder that prevents it from sinking further. The cooper uses it to shape the rings of his barrels and to strike the rivets. Tinsmiths, plumbers, jewelers, wheelwrights and carvers have them in different shapes and sizes.
