"Naked woman sitting on a balustrade" by Frédéric BROU (1862 - Lot 132
"Naked woman sitting on a balustrade" by Frédéric BROU (1862-1926). Holding her hair with one hand and leaning on the balustrade with the other, the young woman seems to be delicately looking down. A student of Larroux and Georges Lemaire, Brou exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in the early 20th century. He also exhibited at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition. For the pedestal of John J. BOYLE's Monument to Benjamin Franklin, inaugurated in 1906, he created two bas-reliefs: "Louis XVI receives Benjamin Franklin in Versailles - 1778" and "Signature of the Treaty of Paris - 1783" (visible in the Yorktown Square in Paris). In 1906, at the request of Léon Bloy, he produced a plaster project for the burial of the poet Villiers de l'Isle Adam, also known as "La Gloire tirant Auguste de Villiers de l'Isle Adam de son sommeil éternel" (preserved in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris). Frédéric Brou offered another life-size version to the Saint-Brieuc museum in 1924. Dated 1905. Height 180 cm - Width 70 cm
