Attracted to art from an early age, Victor-Joseph Roux Champion took up painting at an early age, showing a particular aptitude for watercolor and engraving techniques. A pupil of Gustave Moreau, he frequented Marquet, Georges Rouault and Matisse, and met Gauguin, whose footsteps he followed to Brittany. A devotee of Parisian life, he sketched many facets of the capital and, in 1927, illustrated the book 10 peintres du XXème siècle in collaboration with Galerie Michel.
