VISHNU AS "COSMIC MAN Jaipur, Rajasthan, North India, late 19th century Pigments on paper, in black borders, framed. Misses, repaints, folds. Size: 50 x 33 cm This painting depicts the god Vishnu in his form of cosmic man: he is then Vishvarupa, meaning "all forms". The various deities depicted on his body indicate the god's universal character, encompassing all creation. He is represented with eight arms and holds the conch, one of his attributes. A Jaipur School painting of Vishvarupa is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (IS.33-2006). Another was sold at Artcurial, May 21, 2024, no. 230.
