Nicolas LE JEUNE (active between 1765 and 1804) Absalom's Feast Pen and brown ink, brown wash and white gouache, completed at top 18 x 23.8 cm. Study for a large drawing that won second prize in the Concorso Clementino of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome in 1771, now in the Accademia nazionale di San Luca, Rome. The artist then produced an enlarged version, now in the Horvitz collection (cat. exp. Mastery & Elegance. Two centuries of French drawings from the collection of Jeffrey E. Horvitz, Cambridge (Mass.), Fogg Art Museum and other venues, 1998-2000, no. 95).
