CROISIÈRE NOIRE. — IACOVLEFF (Alexandre).
BLACK CRUISE. - IACOVLEFF (Alexander). The Amenokal Akhamouk. Signed and captioned lower right, undated. Sanguine, charcoal and pastel on paper (54,5 x 72,5 cm); in a beautiful frame with a flat gilded rod, carved with arabic motifs (80 x 97,5 cm). Powerful bust portrait of the great Amenokal Akhamouk, lord of the Hoggar, with a piercing gaze and wearing his night-blue litham (Tuareg chèche), dressed in a black gandoura. Amenokal Akhamouk controlled this region of the Sahara, the Hoggar, which had been particularly inhospitable since the Tuareg revolts of 1916. He moved around himself with a large number of warriors and, as the supreme chief of all the tribes, he commanded respect from the colonists. Superb portrait of a Tuareg chief, preserved in a beautiful arabic frame.
