BLACK CRUISE. - IACOVLEFF (Alexander). Drawings and paintings of Africa. Paris, Lucien Vogel, Jean Meynial, 1927. In-folio, in a fawn sheepskin publisher's folder, cold title on the first cover, modern cloth endpapers and flaps, contemporary leather laces. First edition of this famous account of the Citroën - Centre Afrique expedition, second Haardt, Audouin-Dubreuil mission (after the Traversée du Sahara). Leaving from Colomb-Bechar on October 28, 1924, the Expedition will divide in 4 at the end of the journey, some reaching the Cape, others Tananarive... The expedition will end on June 26, 1925 after a journey of 28 000 km. Seduced by the ethnographic paintings of Iacovleff, André Citroën invited the artist to become the official painter of the mission, bringing a cultural and artistic dimension to this mechanical, political and human exploit. It includes : - a silk-covered booklet with painted decoration, with Alexandre Iacovleff's travel notes, illustrated with his own sketches reproduced around the text or in overprint. - 49 plates in colors hors-texte of Iacovleff, some of them pasted, numbered from 1 to 50 (one plate numbered 1-2). One of the 1000 numbered copies with the text printed on Lafuma Madagascar paper and the plates on Lafuma vellum paper. - Joined the specimen of the work, illustrated with 2 plates in colors. Stains on the folder and the silk of the fascicle (rubbed). Endpapers and flaps renewed.
