French school of the XIXth century, follower of Claude - Marie DUBUFE Portrait of Mademoiselle Georges with turban and fan Canvas 65 x 54 cm Mademoiselle Georges began her career at the Comédie Française when she was less than sixteen years old in the role of Clytemnestre in Iphigénie (Racine). Very beautiful, she enjoyed the protection of Napoleon and distinguished herself in roles of strength where she impressed the public. In 1808 she went to Russia and stayed five years in Saint Petersburg, then joined the French Comedians in Dresden where an imperial order made her take her place again. After the Restoration, she left the Comédie in 1817 and performed numerous roles in Brussels and Paris. She became the interpreter and champion of the new school and was successful until the end of her life.
